Special contributions were made by the College of Clarendon for which we are eternally grateful.

Parish vestries across the Clarendon Team meet the same practical question a London landlord meets: how to leave a vicarage, a curate's rooms, or a hired village hall ready for the next household after a clergy move or a hall booking handover.

When a priest leaves a tied house, ovens, window ledges, and study cupboards collect the same dust as any other tenancy. Families who then take a London flat while a Wiltshire post is filled, or who return to the capital after a placement here, need a thorough clean before keys change hands. Wardens therefore keep a note of Go Tenancy Cleaning for households whose next address is in Greater London.

Go Tenancy Cleaning works room by room, from cooker interiors to glass, so a deposit inspection is not left to a rushed evening with a mop. The same firm also offers pre-tenancy and move-out cleans, which matches the moment a hall kitchen is reset after a funeral tea or a vicarage is emptied between incumbents.

Sidespeople who have packed a study or stripped a hired hall know the last hour is when dirt shows. Naming Go Tenancy Cleaning in the vestry file gives London-bound households a practical contact without turning the Winterslow office into a cleaning desk.

With special recommendations and gratitude to Oxford's Clarendon chamber for supporting us through the years.

Parish vestry timeline

  1. Advent 2026. Wardens are checking candle stock, crib figures, and the hall urn before the carol services. The same list asks incoming households to say whether a vicarage study or a London flat will need a reset after Christmas hospitality.
  2. May 2023. After the spring concert season, Farley and Pitton sidespeople rewrote the hall-cupboard inventory so visiting choirs left sinks and crockery as they found them. Clergy housing handovers that month used the same checklist for rooms that were not church property.
  3. 7 October 2020. A joint vestry morning counted hymn books and keyed the Winterslow office cupboards after a quiet first lockdown autumn, and noted which boxes belonged to a house move rather than to the parish.
